Wound Care with Dermabond Prineo

What is it?

We used the Dermabond Prineo system to close your wound. It combines a mesh tape covered with light purple glue. This seals the wound while it heals.

How do I care for my wound?

Taking showers or baths

  • Your doctor will tell you when you can get your wound wet.

  • Do not soak or scrub your wound. This means no swimming.

  • The mesh is waterproof. You can get it wet for a short time in the shower or bath.

  • To dry, gently dab the wound with a soft towel.

  • If there is any drainage through or around the mesh, do not get the mesh wet.

If dry dressings cover the wound

  • You may also have a dry dressing. If so, you may replace it with fresh dressing after showers or baths.

  • Be careful with the tape for the dry dressing. Do not let it touch the mesh. The mesh may peel off.

Physical activity

  • Avoid any exercise that put stress on your wound. Your doctor will tell you when you can return to normal activity.

  • Do not scratch, rub, or pick at the mesh. This may cause it to come loose.

Lotions or ointments

Do not put anything wet on the wound. This means no lotions, ointments, or liquids. These may cause the mesh to peel off.

How is it removed?

  • Leave it in place a full 2 weeks after surgery.

  • We will check the wound at your follow up clinic visit.

  • If it is not removed at the clinic visit, we will tell you how to remove it.

When should I call the doctor?

Call your doctor’s office right away if you have any of these:
  • The mesh comes loose

  • Drainage does not stop

  • Redness

  • Swelling

  • Pain or discomfort

  • Wound is warm

  • Pus comes from the wound

  • Questions or concerns about your wound or the Dermabond Prineo
